Pygmalion 26 is an Irish-language translation of GB Shaw’s classic political comedy. This production takes Shaw’s work and brings it to Belfast 2026. Pygmalion deals with social class and its identification through accent. We are taking that theme and running it through Shaw’s prism of class to address the question of who can call themselves a native Irish speaker. We will be creating this with the humour that Shaw brings to Pygmalion, and the vibrant wit and linguistic culture that surrounds us in the urban Gaeltacht of West Belfast.
